mind you don't .....

fall over with shock - I've only gone and made a card!!!

Hello blogworld,

Yes well it's not perfect and I've added to it since I made it last night, but at least I've made a start!  I've got more images printed out, so you never know you might see more cards.

Oh and I think I've worked out why my Mojo / inspiration / enthusiasm for making has been so absent.  A combination of colouring envy (have you seen the amazing colourers there are out in the blogworld?); knock to confidence (I applied for a few different DTs and got a knock back for all of 'em); not getting anywhere in any of the challenges I've entered this year (another knock to confidence) and finally not selling my cards (still more confidence knocking).

So I went off into a miserable spiral of feeling sorry for myself and thinking what crap my cards are, pathetic or what!

Anyway I think I've wallowed long enough, so I've given myself a good shake and am going to stop trying to compare myself to this, that or the other person.  So what if I'm no good at colouring, it's what makes me happy.  I'm on DT's and I've been on others - so my cards can't be that bad, can they?

I'm also going to make the effort to start blogging again - I have missed you all.

And here is the first card made with my resolutions in mind:

Front shot:

Close up:

  • I coloured with my Promarkers.
  • The image is Beachy Tia from Some Odd Girl
  • Papers are We Are Memory Keepers - Whiteout
  • Embellies: - I made the little lace flower, the swirl is from Create and Craft, brad from The Hobby House.
  • A nestie made the frame.

I'm off now to enter a challenge, or maybe two.

Sarah

Oh, and no progress on the extension last week - no builder!  He's due here tomorrow for the next week though, so hopefully next week I'll have more pictures.

A challenge, or two:

Some Odd Girl - August Sketch Challenge

Not a rubbish card in sight here Sarah! - I think we all go through these I'm no good phases - I feel like I've lost my way a bit lately don't know what my style is and can't seem to put it together like I used to - I'm hoping some Christmas cards will put me on track when I get home from my hollies ( writing here from my Florida sunbed!) - just need to decide what style to do and how to put them together....groan,,,! Have a great week hugs Judith x

Sarah, you must stop being so hard on yourself! I think we all go through the lack of confidence phase and its just silly. We do it for fun, and you should enjoy your craft. Your card is amazing and I can't see anything wrong with your colouring! Our harshest critics are ourselves, stop it!! Pami x

Glad to have you back Sarah... been missing you!! It does sound like you've been having a real Pity Party!

I have a sign on my wall that says 'Do what makes you happy, be with who makes you smile, laugh as much as you breathe, and love as long as you live..' Words to live by huh?

I get that same feeling every now and again, when I get very few comments on something that's really taken me an age... but I think that if it made me happy while I was making it... then who cares really? (Says I with a massive box of cards in my cupboard! - but I do sell to neighbours... then find it difficult to actually PART with certain ones!)

Your little lady is fabulous... I love the colours you've used and the gorgeous papers... looking forward to seeing MORE soon!

Hugs
Christine x

A fantastic card Sarah and love the funky image and colours. Sarah I think we all feel the same at times and my confidence has had a real battering this year. But I started my blog for me and my craft so I put things on there that I like. I stopped thinking I must be like everyone else because I couldn't do it!!!!
Glad to see you back and you keep colouring!!!

Oh Sarah...your cards are wonderful. Love this funky little girl and the cute way you "framed' her...Brilliant idea.

I get down a bit too when my mojo goes walkies. I have never been on a design team and only tried twice...rejected both times. One rejection was to be expected as it was for a challenge blog and store and others on the team have a different style than me...all are really good colouring artists.

But I did get disapointed and a little down when I didn't get on a brand new anything goes challenge blog team that I applied for.
Almost everyone that got on had under 20 followers and were the style of bloggers who rarely left comments for others.

I felt quite low and then finally decided that I make cards cuz I like to and I leave comments cuz I like the bloggers I visit. That helped me get through that low point.

Sarah your cards are great and there is nothing wrong with your colouring at all. Stop comparing your creations to others and you might start enjoying crafting again. You have your own style, you don't need to be like anyone else! If your cards really were as bad as you say then you wouldn't have any followers or be on design teams.
Looking forward to seeing your next card.
